Fischereistatistik: • Die Einteilung der Seegebiete im Nordatlantik ähnelte um 1950 nur im NO-Atlantik bis Gibraltar der heutigen Struktur. o Im Osten beginnend: z.B. Barentssee (I) nach Süden Skagerrak/Ostsee (III), Island/ Färöer (V) bis Senegal (XIIa), danach O-Grönland (XIV). o Im NW-Atlantik von Norden beginnend W-Grönland (XV) über USA-Schelf (XXIII) bis zu den Kleinen Antillen (XXVIII). o Seegebiete außerhalb des Kontinentalschelfs waren nicht einbezogen. (nach LÜBBERT 1950, S. 104) • Die internationalen Fischereiorganisationen ICNAF (NW-Atlantik) und NEAFC (NO-Atlantik), ab 1980 die NAFO, teilten den Nordatlantik in statistische Gebiete ein, die mit geringen Änderungen heute noch gelten. • Die aktuelle Einteilung für Fischereigebiete der Welternährungsorganisation FAO geht auf das 1990 erschienene “Handbook of Fishery Statistical Standards” mit der Section G: FISHING AREAS - GENERAL zurück. • Die Großgebiete FAO Major Fishing Areas (hier abgekürzt MFA) sind je nach Erfordernis weiter unterteilt in Subarea, Division, Subdivision und Unit. • deutsche Bezeichnungen der FAO Area Codes entsprechen den damals üblichen Begriffen, die englischen Benennungen in Klammern dahinter, den aktuellen Publikationen der FAO.
